The 2022 holidays: What are they and how much will I receive if I work these days?

Starts on and the calendar of it is renewed automatically. Many people make plans around these dates, with the expectation of taking vacations or even budgeting for extra income if they have to work.

In the country there are holidays and non-working days, and both are different. In the first case, holidays are defined by law, while non-working days can be decreed.

Differences between holidays and non-working days

For the purposes of workers in Peru, the most relevant difference is that holidays are paid breaks that do not need to be compensated, while non-working days are. That is, if you do not work on a non-working day, you will have to pay for those hours on another occasion.

This difference has another implication. If you work on a holiday, you are entitled to three daily wages or a substitute rest. In case of working on a non-working day, it simply does not compensate for the hours.

“If a worker works a non-working day, he will only receive the regular daily remuneration. As it is not a holiday, the private sector does not have to pay additional items or substitute breaks “said Katy Noriega, senior associate at the Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría Law Firm.

If a person works on a holiday, they could be paid three daily wages. For example, if you work this Saturday, January 1, without substitute rest, you must pay: a daily remuneration for the work performed, a daily remuneration for the rest on an unused holiday and a remuneration as a surcharge (100% on the daily remuneration) provided by law.

Currently, the only non-working day in 2022 is Monday, January 3. However, holidays are spread over next year’s calendar.
