Havana Cuba. – From the Valle Grande maximum rigor prison, located in the municipality of La Lisa, the 11J protester Yunior García Vizcay denounces various tortures and ill-treatment perpetrated against him in the different detention centers where he has been imprisoned.
García Vizcay is 29 years old and at the time of his imprisonment he was working as a refrigeration technician assistant. He recounts that he July 11, 2021 He joined the demonstrators who were protesting in the vicinity of the Toyo corner, at the intersection of the Luyanó and Diez de Octubre roads.
Two weeks later, on July 25, he was violently arrested at his home. The young man describes that around 15 plainclothes police officers arrived in a bus and gave him a “terrible beating”.
The protester assures that they hit him on the head, which in his case is doubly dangerous because since he was a child he has had a dense vein that required surgery. Added to this is that after the beating the back of his skull is sinking, for which he has not received any treatment.
García Vizcay goes on to say that they initially locked him up in a place they call “El Hueco”, a house used as a detention center by the DTI near Toyo, where they kept him for a few hours before sending him to the Aguilera Police station, in the Lawton deal. They kept him there for a day and later transferred him to the Criminal Investigation and Operations Division at 100 and Aldabó, where he indicates that they tortured him for 20 days.
He details that they took him out of the cell at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning and left him for several hours in a small room with the air conditioning too strong. The protester acknowledges that during those days he lost track of time.
He also indicates that when those 20 days had elapsed they took him to the Valle Grande prison. The trial against him and three other protesters was held from January 31 to February 3, 2022. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the alleged crime of sedition.
