Transparency in fuel costs approved

The Chamber of Senators in its ordinary session this Thursday, approved with modifications the legislative proposal “That establishes transparency and publicity measures on the structure of costs and fuel billing prices.”

In this regard, Senator Hugo Richer, head of the Legislation Commission, explained that the purpose of the project is to establish cost monitoring measures in fuel prices in Paraguayan territory. He added that the project has changes in reference to the original proposal.

Stephan Rasmussen, national senator for the PPQ and main promoter of this initiative, explained that all the information collected will be published on a monthly basis so that citizens know how the cost of fuel is behaving. “There is a great claim that in Paraguay the final price to the consumer is still high, unlike other countries in the region and the world, where the cost of fuel has dropped in recent weeks,” he added.

He added that it is intended to provide transparency and offer one more tool to the consumer so that he understands if he is paying a fair or high price.

Esperanza Martínez, national senator for the Guasu Front, stressed that the fuel issue has a tremendous impact on the economy, the macroeconomics, and the microeconomics of households. “It is a very simple law that seeks to publish information that allows price transparency and that can, above all, prevent abuses, especially by the private sector,” she said.

In the same vein, senators Fernando Silva Facetti (PLRA), Desirée Masi (PDP), Daniel Rojas (PLRA), Jorge Querey (FG), Blanca Ovelar (ANR) and Eusebio Ramón Ayala (PLRA), expressed their agreement with the regulation that seeks to provide information to citizens to expose the real cost of fuel.

MODIFICATIONS

During the study in particular, at the proposal of Senator Stephan Rasmussen (PQ), articles 2 and 6 were modified.

It is important to mention that the Treasury, Accounts and Control and Industry commissions ruled for the approval with modifications.

Said proposal was presented by senators Fidel Zavala, Georgia Arrúa, Stephan Rasmussen, Patrick Kemper, Amado Florentín, Arnaldo Franco, Carlos Filizzola, Esperanza Martínez, Fernando Lugo, Hugo Richer, Miguel Fulgencio Rodríguez, Jorge Querey and Sixto Pereira.
