Colombian James Rodríguez returns to European football when signing for Olympiacos, just a few hours after the termination of his contract with Qatari Al Rayyan was announced.

“It’s here! James Rodriguez welcome to Olympiacos and to Piraeus”, the Greek club tweeted to announce the signing of the coffee midfielder, who shortly after confirmed his signing by retweeting the initial message from the Hellenic team and the message “Hello Olympiacos!”.

The announcement of the signing came hours after the former Real Madrid player put an end to his stage in Qatar, after Al Rayyan announced the termination of the contract.

Rodríguez has only played 14 games this season with Al Rayyan and has scored 5 goals and provided 7 assists. The club announced on Twitter that it had terminated the contract “by mutual consent after having concluded an agreement between the two parties”.

The 31-year-old, who has also passed through the ranks of Monaco and Bayern Munich among others, had signed with the Qatari club in September 2021, from Everton.

James will meet again at Olympiacos with the Brazilian Marcelo, with whom he coincided at Real Madrid, and who also signed for the Greek team after finishing his contract with the white club.
