Mask compulsory from six years on for transport in France

Paris, France | AFP | France imposed new measures on Saturday, including the mandatory wearing of a mask in transport from 6 years of age and the ban on the sale and distribution of food and beverages on board, to deal with the explosion of covid-19 cases, with a omicron variant already the majority in the country.

As of Monday, children must wear a mask from 6 years of age (compared to 11 years previously) in public transport, boats, airplanes and vehicles (including taxis and VTC), as well as in train stations, public transport stations and terminals, according to a decree published on Saturday in the Official Gazette.

Also as of Monday and “until January 23, 2022 inclusive, the sale and service for consumption on board of food and beverages are prohibited during travel,” the text specifies.

The decree does not give more details about the consumption on board, except the fact that the restaurants of the ships are not affected.

“In long-distance trips, this measure will be applied with discernment, in particular for young children and to allow hydration to be possible,” according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport.
