This campaign highlights the need for early diagnosis because when HIV is detected early and the person receives antiretroviral treatment, they have viral suppression, that is, their viral load is undetectable.
With the aim of making an early diagnosis of 95% of HIV cases, the Probidsida Foundation launched this Wednesday, September 14, the campaign “No one should die of AIDS.”
Orlando Quintero, director of the foundation, explained that this campaign is important because it highlights the need for early diagnosis, since when HIV is detected early and the person receives antiretroviral treatment, they have viral suppression, that is, their viral load is undetectable.
“This represents that the HIV virus loses its ability to infect or transmit itself,” said Quintero, noting that the image of this second version of the campaign is former boxer Roberto Mano de Piedra Durán, who calls on people to get tested. at least once a year.
Quintero stressed that although they do not handle HIV/AIDS figures for 2022, it is indisputable that they will be higher than last year, since in 25 years of fighting the advance of the HIV epidemic there has not been a decline in the curve in a single year. “It’s not like COVID that sometimes cases go down, in HIV the figures are always on the rise, in deaths there has been a decrease,” he said, emphasizing that this is due to timely treatment of the disease.
He indicated that despite the fact that there are more people getting tested, there are still 50% of people who live with the disease and do not know it, they continue to be infected with the disease and spread it without knowing their condition, he added.
