Formation and studies
He was born on March 21, 1967 in the municipality of Actopan, Hidalgo. He is currently 55 years old. He has a degree in Economics from the Autonomous Metropolitan University, a teacher in the same subject from the Colegio de México, as detailed by the federal government .
At the World Bank, he was part of and led various initiatives aimed at improving the performance of the public sector in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and served as a public servant in different positions within the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
He has a Ph.D. in economics from New York University, in addition to serving as a subject professor at New York University from 1995 to 1998.
Previous charges
His career in the public sector began at the SHCP as deputy director of International Economic Studies in 1999, leaving that institution in August 2000 as deputy director of macroeconomic studies.
Between 2004 and 2006, he served as Secretary of Finance of the Government of the then Federal District, during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as head of government, a position that he continued in the government of Alejandro Encinas.
Later, in 2010, he served as Practice Manager, Public Service and Performance Unit for Latin America and the Caribbean of the World Bank, until December 2018.
On July 9, 2019, Herrera took office as the new head of the SHCP, after the departure of Carlos Urzúa.
