Young nurse murdered in Havana

enfermera, La Habana, feminicidio

Madrid Spain.- The young Cuban nurse Zoila Chacón was murdered this weekend in Havana, presumably at the hands of her partner.

The Provincial Directorate of Health of Havana shared through Facebook a publication of the Eusebio Hernández Hospital, where the unfortunate event was reported.

“Once again sadness invades every corner of our common home: the hospital that you defended so much and to which you gave effort and sincere love. Nothing can change the harsh reality of your game, the pain multiplies in each company.[email protected] that you leave without mediating goodbyes. Today we can only tell you Thank you for the beautiful trail of memories you leave us! You will live forever in this place that you made yours and from which you will never completely leave,” the post reads.

Zoila Chacón, a native of Guantánamo, had a degree in Nursing and Obstetrics. At the time of her death, she lived in the Marianao neighborhood of the capital and worked at the Eusebio Hernández Hospital. She is survived by her mother and her two young children. Social networks were filled with comments expressing sadness and condolences at the unexpected death of the young woman.

Although neither the official media nor the platforms defending women’s rights have confirmed the cause of death, people close to the victim assure that the perpetrator was his partner, “out of jealousy.”

Cuba

So far this year, Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba has registered 25 femicides on the island; Therefore, if the comments of users on social networks are confirmed, Zoila Chacón would be the 26th fatal victim of sexist violence in the country during 2022.

The last week The women’s rights platform, Red Femenina de Cuba, reported that a woman had been killed with machetes in the municipality of Corralillo, Villa Clara province.

Yo Sí Te Creo in Cuba recently explained that the increase in femicides is due to the “weak network of family and community support” since many cases of sexist violence are not reported; and in case the denunciations are made, the Cuban authorities do not act against the aggressor.
