Nicaragua delivered this Tuesday to Costa Rica the Central American Torch of Freedom, with which the region commemorates its independence from the Spanish Crown, signed on September 15, 1821.
The Central American flame was delivered in a cultural event at the Peñas Blancas border post, in southern Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica, which was chaired by the Nicaraguan Minister of Education, Lilliam Herrera, and her Costa Rican counterpart Anna Katharina Müller.
The Central American Torch of Freedom left the largest country in the region, after three days, in which it traveled 510 kilometers.

During its passage through Nicaragua, the torch was transported by outstanding primary and secondary students, members of the Armed Forces and Sandinista groups.
The day before, President Daniel Ortega received the Central American flame in an act closed to the public, in a park located in the old center of Managua.
The torch path includes the five Central American countries that jointly became independent in 1821.
Since 1964, the torch begins its annual tour in Guatemala, continues in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and ends in Costa Rica.
