There is still no precision about the exact amount of money that the assailants of the regional bank of Pirapó took. To open the vault, they used high explosives and fled using stolen vehicles.
Commissioner Hugo Díaz, head of the Itapúa Investigation Department, stated in an interview with the media that there is still no certainty about the amount of money that was stolen during the robbery at the Pirapó bank.
Once the manager and officials of the bank branch complete the accounting work, it will be possible to have greater precision in relation to the amount stolen, he mentioned.
The information that is handled is that the vault was loaded on Monday, so it is presumed that there was a significant amount of bills. “Only 11 G. 100,000 bills and 30 G. 2,000 bills were found, the safe is empty,” he said.
To perpetrate this millionaire robbery, the bank robbers -which would be between 6 to 8 people- used two high-power explosives, one to open the main door of the vault and another for the safe.
Subsequently, they fled in two vehicles that had been reported stolen, one in the city of Ñemby and another in the district of Yuty, and which were later burned a few kilometers from the bank headquarters.
The criminals also used large-caliber weapons, judging by the served vanillas found at the site corresponding to 7.62-caliber and 5.56-caliber rifles, Díaz explained.
The commissioner indicated that they have suspicions of some criminal groups that could be behind the event, although they will continue to collect more data in order to direct the investigation and confirm the authorship.
“If we handled information, you can be sure that we were going to try to prevent this from happening as much as possible,” said the police chief, denying the possibility of having handled previous intelligence data.
The National Police intensifies the search throughout the Itapúa area by deploying different units, in order to find the whereabouts of the assailants.
