Due to lack of resources to cover payroll, acquire supplies for the production process and prepare the land for planting cornthe program manager Sowing RDLeonardo Faña, delivered the Cruz de Manzanillo project to the Ministry of Agriculture.
“We have managed to plant 1,100 tasks of corn; the goal was to plant 16,000 tasks of corn. We have decided that Agriculture should follow them, because resources are needed and we do not have them. You have to fumigate corn, so you don’t get lost, and follow up. He is already gleaning and, because we have no resources, we have decided to hand him over to the minister, ”Faña told Daily Free.
The official sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, on September 8, notifying him of the delivery.
Last May, the Government launched the program Sowing RD with the purpose of motivating national production in a context of inflation and supply crisis due to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
Faña said that the project corn it is good and it is planned so that from each task a harvest of eight quintals is obtained. “An investment of 4,000 pesos per task was planned, in the 16,000 tasks,” he indicated. He specified that in Agriculture they can follow up because the Ministry has resources.
“They (Ministry of Agriculture) have a new administrator there and we hand him over to them; he is responsible”, emphasized Faña.
He also said that resources are owed to the personnel hired to enable the irrigation system, weeding, canal cleaning and other needs. “Not a single fortnight has been paid, we have reported everything, we hope they can be paid now,” he added.
According to Faña, the project corn started on June 6, 2022.
“We prepare the land, we sow the corn in 1,100 tasks; we did two pesticide applications, we did it with drones, there was an area where fertilizers were used, the other one could not because the fertilizer was not available, ”he pointed out.
