A little over a month after the great fire that occurred in Matanzas and four months after the accident at the Hotel Saratoga, recovery actions continue so that the affected areas return to their daily work.
This Tuesday there was a meeting of the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, with several ministers in which the progress of both processes was examined. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, directors of the Cuba Petroleum Union (CUPET), the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and the Ministries of Construction; Energy and Mines; Science, Technology and Environment and Public Health, offered information on the work that has been undertaken to recover the Industrial Zone of Matanzas, an arduous task, they said, that requires a lot of collective effort.
Monitoring the status of those injured in the fire was one of the topics. “Of those injured, which were 146 in total, eleven patients remain hospitalized, four of them in critical condition, one serious and six in care,” Portal Miranda said. The Governor of Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, reported via videoconference about the care provided to all affected families living in the accident area.
On the other hand, the recovery actions carried out in the areas damaged by the explosion of the Hotel Saratoga on May 6 were evaluated.
It was confirmed that the technical examination of its structure continues. The governor of Havana, Reinaldo García Zapata, detailed the construction and rehabilitation works that are being carried out in the impacted area. “In the case of the Capitol,” he said, “all actions were completed, based on the damage caused in the place. The Concepción Arenal elementary school was completely finished. In the case of the Martí Theater, the repair actions were completed. Actions were also completed at the headquarters of the Yoruba Association. In the case of homes, four buildings were affected, with a total of 39 homes. 29 homes must be replaced in place and 10 outside the area.
