OnCubaNews

The First Díaz Peláez Abstract Art Hall will be inaugurated this Thursday at the Belkis Ayón gallery, at 23 number 712, corner of C, Vedado, sponsored by the Directorate of Culture of the Plaza municipality and the Experimental Center for Visual Arts.

Of the 156 works presented, 48 were selected in small and medium format, and 47 will be exhibited; of them, 20 acrylics on canvas or cardboard; and 22 in mixed technique and three oils.

Eight works will be shown that bear the signature of masters of Cuban abstraction, including Pedro de Oráa and Julio Girona. Creators from ten provinces with works conceived in the last five years are added to the sample, and in some the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be appreciated.

This first edition is dedicated to the painter Carlos Trillo (1914-2022), a prominent representative of abstractionism in Cuba who recently passed away.

The collective exhibition is an initiative of the Cuban Abstract Art Movement (MAAC) project, sponsored by the Plaza’s Department of Culture. Since 2019, more than thirteen exhibitions of this artistic expression have been inaugurated.
