Mexico resorts to 11 'European' legionnaires to face Peru and Colombia

With eleven soccer players who play in European leagues, the Mexican team announced on Tuesday a roster of 31 players with which they will face their next preparation matches for the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Peru and Colombia, at the end of September in the United States.

In the list designed by the Argentine coach Gerardo el ‘Tata’ Martino appear four Dutch first division players: Jorge Sánchez (Ajax), Edson Álvarez (Ajax), Erick Gutiérrez (PSV Eindhoven) and Santiago Giménez (Feyenoord).

Two footballers who militate in Italian football: Johan Vásquez (Cremonese) and Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano (Naples).

The other five belong to different European leagues: Gerardo Arteaga (Genk from Belgium), Orbelín Pineda (AEK Athens from Greece), Andrés Guardado (Betis from Spain), Diego Lainez (Sporting Braga from Portugal) and Raúl Jiménez (Wolverhampton from England).

From the Mexican league, the team that contributes the most players is Monterrey with five, followed by América, Guadalajara and Pachuca, with three each.

Mexico will face Peru on Saturday, September 24 at the Rose Bowl stadium and on Tuesday the 27th against Colombia at the Levi’s stadium, both games will be in California.
