Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin has arrived in London and will remain in Buckingham Palace overnight before her funeral.
The coffin arrived in the capital after being flown aboard a Royal Air Force C-17 from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Their only daughter, Anne, was the only one of their four children on the flight. “Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and heartening,” the princess royal said in a statement.
The queen’s body will rest overnight in the palace’s Bow Room before being carried in procession on a carriage of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery to the Palace of Westminster.
King Charles and Camilla, the new queen consort, arrived at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night. The royal couple traveled to Belfast and attended an evening prayer and reflection service at St Anne’s Cathedral in the Northern Ireland capital.
Following the state funeral, the queen’s coffin will travel in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch and on to Windsor Castle for burial in St George’s Chapel.
Citizens deposited flowers, cards and teddy bears in London’s Green Park.
