Chamber of Deputies approves seventh extension to the State of Exception in the southern part of the country

The Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved a new extension to the State of Exception in the southern part of the country.

With 124 votes in favour, 11 against and 4 abstentions, the measure received broad support from parliamentarians. If approved by the Senate, it will be applied in the Biobío and La Araucanía regions to protect the areas affected by arson attacks and acts of violence.

Specifically, the Upper House will be dispatched to maintain the State of Exception in the entire region of La Araucanía and the provinces of Arauco and Biobío, in the region of the same name.

This is the seventh extension of the measure by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric.

Changes to the State of Exception

The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed that the Government will make adjustments to the State of Exception decree that governs the southern part of the country.

This will expand the powers that the Armed Forces will have to move beyond the trunk routes. As long as there is danger to people’s lives.
