Police officers arrested three men and retained five motorcycles, at a time when they were preparing to carry out a speed race on a street in the municipality of NeybaBahoruco province.
In a press release, the strategic communications office of the Southern Regional Directorate of the Police based in Barahona, identified the prisoners as Kelvin Urbáez, Willy Floriàn and Dioskin Cuevas, aged 27, 20 and 25, respectively.
It indicates that the three citizens, who reside in the municipality of Villa Jaragua in the aforementioned province, were arrested at the precise moment they were getting ready to launch the race of speed
The other two men who also participated in the clandestine competition fled as soon as they noticed the presence of the uniformed men, leaving the same number of motorcycles abandoned.
“The quick and timely intervention of our agents prevented the materialization of the race in question, in which the participants would endanger their lives and that of others,” says the police note.
It states that the detainees will be made available to justice, through the Public Ministry for the corresponding purposes.
The deaths of young people, as a result of motorcycle accidents in speed races, have decreased in a large proportion in the towns of the provinces that make up the Enriquillo region: Barahona, Pedernales, Bahoruco and Independencia, due to the constant police surveillance on the roads and streets of those territorial demarcations.
