The seventh edition of Havana Triathlonscheduled to be held on October 23, was postponed to February 2023, according to official media.
The event, which has not been held since the beginning of 2020 as a result of the pandemic, now has the date of February 26 of next year, it refers a report of Latin Press (PL).
Alejandro Puerto, president of the Federation of this sport in Cuba, pointed out that the change is due to the current international context, especially from the health point of view. In this way, the competition returns to its traditional date, in the second month of the year.
According to the organizers, those who have already registered for October can be joined by other triathletes and until September 15, a “special” offer was maintained for registration for both sprint and medium distance modalities.
The 2023 circuit will once again have its start at the Marina Hemingway and the finish line at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, in the three categories called: the elite event with a continental cup, the sprint and the middle distance, review PLaccording to which the last two modalities will be awarded by categories.
Puerto explained that all the competitions will take place on the same day “to affect the viability of the city as little as possible, especially in part of the Havana boardwalk.”
In addition, he announced the possibility of organizing an event on the island similar to the Havana Triathlon, at the Olympic distance for young people from 16 to 23 years old, as part of a request from the world federation. In this regard, he said that the possible circuit is already available, “also designed to contribute to the Varadero tourist area.”
The last edition to date of the Havana Triathlon was held on February 23, 2020 and in it the Cuban Michel González won the middle distance, while the Cubans Kevin Milián and Isabel Rodríguez achieved victory in the popular sprint .
