Who is José Williams, the parliamentarian who is now president of Congress?

After the censorship against (Alliance for Progress) due to the leaking of an audio where she was accused of favoring the electoral campaign of César Acuña in La Libertad, new candidates were quickly thought of to replace her in her position as president of Congress.

The result? Historical. And not so much for the good. Initially, it was thought of presenting only one candidacy so as not to delay or bias a beaten Parliament, however six candidates were presented, a figure never seen before.

At the end of the second round and with 67 votes in favor, the congressman became the new president of the Board of Directors, to complete Legislative Year 2022-2023.

WHO IS JOSÉ WILLIAMS ZAPATA?

Joseph Williams Zapata He is a General of the Army Division (R) and a 69-year-old Peruvian politician who belongs to the Avanza País caucus. He was born on November 9, 1951 in Lima and was a member of the Peruvian Army, coming to fight in various conflicts that gave him recognition.

He trained at the Military School of Chorrillos Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, graduated in Military Sciences (2009). He was also part of the Center for Higher National Studies-CAEN and completed a master’s degree in Development and National Defense (2011).

In 2006 he was head of the Joint Command of the Peruvian Armed Forces. From 2009 to 2012 he was academic director of the Center for Higher National Studies (CAEN), Ministry of Defense. Years later, in 2018, he worked as an external professor at the San Ignacio de Loyola University and lecturer at the Escuela Superior de Guerra since 2020.

OPERATION CHAVIN DE HUANTAR

williams zapata participated in the successful Chavín de Huántar operation in 1997, in which 72 people were rescued from the residence of the Japanese ambassador, who remained as hostages of the terrorist group Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru (MRTA).

The military operation was carried out by 14 terrorists from the MRTA. The mission was carried out by 140 Peruvian Army commandos and resulted in the death of two soldiers, a hostage and all the terrorists involved.
