The Provincial Municipality of Cusco, through the Sub Management of Environmental Sanitation of the Environment Management, seeks the integral management of solid waste and its use, through recycling and through the Program of Segregation at the Source and The collection of more than 10 tons of electrical and electronic equipment waste from hotels, shopping centers, institutes, among others, was carried out during the national collection campaign, ‘Reciclafest’.
The activity was organized thanks to a strategic alliance between the company Claro and the Provincial Municipality of Cusco with the aim of guarantee the proper final disposal of this waste considered dangerous for health and the environment.
During his visit to the fair, the mayor in charge, Marco Marroquín, urged the population to become aware of caring for the environment through the adoption of eco-sustainable practices, as well as congratulated the work of the environmental promoters for their commitment to the city in the environmental field, which will allow global development for the province and the Cusco society.
The deputy manager of Environmental Sanitation, Miguel Atausupa, also participated in the launch of this campaign, calling on the district municipalities to join this cause to promote environmental education in the populationin order to avoid environmental contamination and the collapse of the Jaquira dump.
The collection campaign also had a sense of awareness, which, through the slogan “The most important step to take care of the planet starts with you”, sought to make visitors who arrived at Plaza San Francisco aware of the importance of adequate final disposal, through the interpretation center installed by the Claro mobile phone company.
The Municipality of Cusco also works around the segregation of organic waste with almost 150 tons segregated this year, as well as inorganic waste, which exceeded the goal set by the Ministry of the Environment with more than 400 tonsfigures that demonstrate the hard work for the transition towards a sustainable city.
