The president of the Committee of People Affected by the Blackouts, Aixa López, warned this Monday, September 12, that a minimum of two billion dollars is needed to repair and stabilize the National Electric System (SEN), and she believes that the main investments must be made in the south of the country. , where are the hydroelectric generators that provide 70% of the service to the nation.
This was stated by López in an interview granted to Venevisionwhere he ratified that the month of August closed with a high number of registered blackouts, which in his opinion reveals the instability of the SEN and the complications that this generates, especially in the interior of the country, where failures have been registered that are more severe than they leave the population for up to two days without electricity in their homes.
He denounced that the electrical crisis is already becoming evident and intensifying in Caracas, recalling that on August 15 there was a failure that affected the country’s capital and six other states. Similarly, he stated that in the state of Miranda, specifically in areas such as Guarenas, Guatire and Petare, they have reported power failures that last several hours and without response from the authorities.
Aixa López reported that the state of Zulia continues to be the most affected by blackouts and power failures so far in 2022, followed by Táchira, Mérida, Trujillo, Carabobo, Barinas, Nueva Esparta “and lately Miranda”, which according to the statistics that they manage, said that he is heading as one of those who has the most problems lately; although he did not reveal concrete figures.

He affirmed that users are willing to pay for a quality electric service, although he pointed out that there are cases where certain excesses are seen, especially in the commercial sector where companies pay between 2,000 and 3,000 bolívares per month.
He indicated that the actions to be taken by the energy sector on the SEN had to have been applied since April 28, 2008, when the first blackout was registered due to a forest fire on the San Gerónimo-Arenosa line at 765 kV, which generated faults due to a space of three hours in Caracas and other states. That year three more problems were registered and in his opinion, that should have been enough to know that investment and maintenance was needed.
He dismissed the fact that power plants are a solution for ordinary citizens due to the high cost of this equipment and the availability of diesel to charge them. However, he mentioned that several companies may have this mechanism to continue operating.
The president of the Committee of People Affected by the Blackouts, Aixa López, stressed the need for the situations in the country regarding the SEN to be honest so that everyone can know the conditions in which it finds itself, as well as to call a national table that allows find a solution to the problem together.
