The Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM) today commemorates its 60th anniversary, with 93,764 professional graduates and more than 1,400 teachers distributed between its campuses in Santiago and Santo Domingo.
Founded on September 9, 1962 by the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate in Santiago, it was the first private higher education institution, which began with just 60 students, 15 professors and three academic offerings: philosophy, law and education. The rector of the academy, Spinal Sectionaffirmed that it is a referent of education, heritage of the country, a country brand because it took the first steps in that society, starting a democracy in diapers.
“The Episcopate Conference had that vision of creating a higher education institution to contribute to development and form a critical mass in the country and national leadership,” he stressed.

The document states that the Madre y Maestra academy exceeds the 11,000 students and has 166 academic offerswhich include 84 master’s degrees, 41 degree programs and two doctorates of its own.
In addition, 175 agreements with foreign universities for exchange programs, internships, research and other initiatives.
“It’s 60 years that find it a national leader in research, with more than 229 scientific publications in the last five years, becoming the university with the largest number of publications in recent time,” he says.
It has 45 research projects in health sciences, engineering, environment and natural resources, innovation, mechatronics and other areas.
In addition, it exposes, it is in first place in the quality ranking, among Dominican universities for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Webometrics report 2022 edition, in the measurement of its indicators of excellence, openness and transparency on its platforms.
