Football is on the agenda No Censorship this Monday (12), with the presence of sports commentator and former soccer player Müller. In the chat with journalist Marina Machado, he takes stock of his trajectory and recalls key moments of his career. The current moment of Brazilian football is also a topic of conversation.
Luís Antônio Corrêa da Costa, known as Müller, was born in 1966 in the city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. He arrived at São Paulo Futebol Clube in 1984, where he was part of the quintet of stars known as Menudos do Morumbi, alongside Silas, Sydney, Pita and Careca. The name is a reference to the musical group that was successful at the time.
In São Paulo he won the Campeonato Paulista in 1985 and 1987 and the Brazilian Championship in 1986. In 1988 he played for Torino in Italy and became an idol in Turin. Back at Telê Santana’s São Paulo, Müller won the São Paulo championship in 1991/1992 and the Brazilian championship in 1991. He also won the Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 1992/1993. In the final, against Barcelona in 1992, he made a spectacular move that ended with Raí’s goal. In 1993, against the mighty Milan, Müller scored the winning goal by 3-2.
In 1995, he had a brief spell with the Japanese team Kashiwa Reysol. Back in Brazil, he joined the Palmeiras team in 1996 and won the Campeonato Paulista. With Cruzeiro, he won the 1998 Recopa Sul-Americana (played in 1999), the Copa do Brasil in 2000 and the Copa Sul-Minas in 2001. In the same year, he was champion of São Paulo and reached the final of the Copa do Brasil for Corinthians. .
Müller was part of the Brazilian National Team and shone with the green and yellow jersey. The player participated in three World Cups – in 1986, 1990 and in 1994, when Brazil won the fourth world championship.
As a coach, he commanded Grêmio Maringá, Sinop, Imbituba and Blumenau Esporte Clube. In 2015, he played for Fernandópolis at the age of 49. Currently, Müller is a commentator for TV Gazeta, after having worked on TV Record, Band and Sportv.
