The Colonial Hotel of the Cayo Coco tourist pole, in the central region of Cuba, received comprehensive maintenance for its upcoming reopening with a new image, according to official media on the island.
The tourist facility which marked the beginning of the sector’s operations in the Jardines del Rey destination, in the northern keys of the province of Ciego de Avilawill soon be operating for 29 years, a date on which it will arrive with better conditions in its rooms, restaurants, bars and ranches, among other areas, according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The hotel, belonging to the Cubanacán Hotel Group and with a Four Star category, intends to reopen its doors on October 1, shortly before the start of the high season, its directors confirmed to the media.
The resuscitation work was focused on improving the hot water and air conditioning systems of its 458 rooms, actions considered essential by the management to operate and guarantee the comfort of the clients during their stay in the place.

The Colonial Cayo Coco has among its attractions 10 bars, three restaurants specialized in national and international cuisine, in addition to the buffet and barbecues with varied gastronomic offers, the text specifies.
It would also maintain its extra menu offers, such as event celebrations, special dinners, quinces and weddings. The hotel is home to a Casa del Habano, the only one of its kind in the destination and globally recognized for offering various Premium drinks and cigars, adds the publication.
The emblematic hotel ceased its activities during the critical period of the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19until it began to function as an isolation center for Cubans from abroad (from June 8 to November 9, 2021), a period in which it housed 17,183 tourists from Russia, Chile, Canada and Mexico.
At the end of this stage, it was subjected to disinfection processes and continuous improvements, which allowed reviving all areas to receive, in superior conditions, Canadian, Russian and national clients.
Located in one of the most promising tourist destinations in the Caribbean area, Jardines del Rey’s flagship facility is inspired by the History of Cuba, with colonial motifs in the unique architecture of its buildings, cobblestone streets and small squares that allow you to return in the time to a colonial-style past, recalls the ACN.
The Cuban government remains immersed in the rehabilitation of the sightseeingone of the lines of the economy hit hard by the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, now remarkably under control in the country.
Although the resuscitation has not progressed at the expected pace, the authorities of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) maintain the goal of receiving 2.5 million visitors on the Island before the end of this year, still far from the number of tourists who visited the country in 2019.
Tourism continues to be one of the engines of the battered Cuban economy, which is going through a deep crisis that has worsened in recent years due to the impact of the new coronavirus pandemic, the tightening of the economic and financial siege imposed by the United States, and the limited effectiveness of many of the measures adopted by the government to reverse the complex situation.
As recognized by the highest Cuban authorities, tourism constitutes the second most important pillar of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and is located in the same position among the main sources of foreign currency income.
