In order to promote the hiring of more Colon labor in investment projects, the Executive Secretariat of the Colon Free Port Special System (CPL), the University of Panama (UP) and the Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industries of Colon (CCAIC ), compiled a database with information on students and graduates of the Centro Regional Universitario de Colón who are unemployed.
The initiative is framed in the Cooperation and Technical Assistance Agreement signed between the parties, and is in line with Pillar 4 of the Government of President Cortizo of “Competitive economy that generates jobs”, by contributing to the economic reactivation of the province of Colón as long as the entrepreneurs meet one of the system’s requirements, the base will be delivered to them, informed Nitzia Ayarza, CPL’s executive secretary.
The database was developed in coordination with the Schools of Computer Science, Psychology, Human Resources and Economics of the UP. The result of the first cut contains a total of 161 records of students interested in occupying a job position, of which 141 are currently enrolled and 20 are graduates.
“The records generated have yielded information of great interest, not only to encourage more personnel from the province to fill the vacancies presented by the investing companies of the Colón Free Port Special System, but also to focus our actions on programs that contribute to the improvement of capacities of students and graduates. We have seen that there are needs in topics such as English and technology, so we will be evaluating how to support them in that regard,” added Ayarza.
