The chancellery of Colombia announced the creation of an inter-institutional unit for the reactivation of diplomatic relations with Venezuela.
Through his Twitter account, he reported that the first meeting on this subject was held this Friday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Colombia.
During the meeting, fundamental issues were prioritized such as health, trade, energy, education and culture. In addition, logistical issues were agreed upon, such as the organization of working groups, articulation and monitoring of the process of diplomatic restoration.
“The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco José Coy Granados, in the company of the Colombian ambassador in Venezuela @AABenedetti hold the first inter-institutional meeting for the reactivation of relations with Venezuela,” the Colombian Foreign Ministry published about the meeting.
“The Inter-institutional Unit for the Reactivation of Relations with Venezuela will be the coordination body with the entities and institutions of the national, territorial and bilateral order. In this regard, the participants agreed on the importance of facilitating the participation of the border regions in the process”, he reported.
The Foreign Relations portfolio highlighted that during that meeting “priority issues for the opening of the border” were worked on, as well as logistical, coordination, articulation and follow-up issues.
Creation of sectoral technical tables
Regarding the meeting, the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, reported that they will create sectoral technical tables to gradually resume ties with Venezuela.
“The sectoral technical tables will be made up of delegates from ministries and national entities, as follows: security and defense, transportation and mobility, migration issues and international cooperation, border crossings and infrastructure, and consular affairs,” he explained through his Twitter account.
Benedetti stressed that the infrastructure of bridges and roads will be reviewed, look for places for consulates, review cargo and passenger transport, reactivate trade, health and educational infrastructure, as well as the reopening of existing steps and new steps.
