Within the framework of the signing of the agreement between Télam and APU, its director, José Cornejo, commented: “Although not institutionally until now, we already had a relationship with Télam for many years. But with the current management we took a bigger leap, very positive. The signing of this agreement has a little to do with institutionalizing this relationship and ordering it according to a shared journalistic vision”.
The signing of the agreement, which took place this Friday at the Bolívar headquarters, will allow APU to access content from the multi-service platform with all the journalistic content and formats that it has.
Cornejo, in turn, defined the quality of the link because “In these times of fake news, Télam plays a key role in curating information, it is a prestigious brand, whose production is picked up by the media throughout the country.”
APU also participated in the meeting, Daniela Morán -their head of photography- who stressed that “in relation to the photographic archive it is also very important for us to have good quality photos, taking into account that Télam covers a huge agenda in all the country and that greatly expands our coverage possibilities.”
For her part, Bernarda Llorente explained that “a fundamental function that we have as a national news agency is to be able to provide input to both the large media and cooperative, community media throughout the country. Because this also implies the possibility of expanding voices and therefore expanding democratic plurality; something that we understand not only as different political positions, but as different valid representations, different constructions of citizenship”.
“The Paco Urondo agency –added the head of Télam- provides an important perspective on the national debate. This agreement and all the agreements that we have been signing seem very positive to us because we believe that part of our role and the role of the State is to guarantee journalism of the highest quality and truthfulness.”
Finally, Llorente completed: “Our agency has to be a showcase and an informative brand. And to the extent that these new generations of journalists get involved, these agreements gradually improve a world where the media is highly concentrated. Giving possibility to new voices is one of the fundamental points in this construction of a better journalism.”
