lusail stadium, last of the eight World Cups in Qatar 2022 in which the construction works have been completed, was inaugurated this Friday with a match between the champion clubs of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Al Hilal and Zamalek.
The friendly, which was called the Lusail Super Cupwas “the last test of the preparation of a stadium before the World Cup,” said the general director of the organization committee, Yasir Al-Jamal.
The event was held with all the tickets sold in an enclosure with golden tones on the outside and before 80,000 people, which makes it the one with the most capacity in the tournament.
Located in the new city of Lusail, 20 kilometers north of the capital Doha, the stadium will receive ten matches, including the first of the World Cup -between Qatar and Ecuador-, which will begin on November 20 and end on December 18.
The Lusail stadium, whose construction has cost nearly 700 million euros (702 million dollars), is inspired “by the game of shadows and lights that characterizes the traditional lantern ‘fanar'”, the organization specified.
“The form and the facade have decorative motifs such as bowls and other vessels characteristic of the golden age of art and the crafts of the Arab-Muslim world,” he added.
Before this official opening, the venue hosted a Qatar championship match between Al Arabi and Al-Rayyan, disputed on August 11, in addition to an evening dedicated to the orientation of the 20,000 volunteers on September 2.
