The artists who protested on July 11 in front of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT) and who were accused of public disorder have received this Thursday the dismissal of the case opened against them, which is equivalent to an acquittal.
Within this group, the situation of the playwright Yunior García Aguilera and the curator Solveig Font, both outside of Cuba, is still unclear.
Actor Reinier Díaz tells 14ymedio that when he came to sign the dismissal of his case, in the Zapata y C police unit, he asked for García Aguilera and Font, and they told him that “with both of them the attitude was different”, without specifying anything else.
The playwright refers to this newspaper not knowing anything about his case and the curator, who “is finding out.”
“I just signed my dismissal for the July 11 demonstration in front of the ICRT, I thought about not making it public, but I think I owe it to many,” wrote historian Leonardo Fernández Otaño
“I just signed my dismissal for the July 11 demonstration in front of the ICRT, I thought about not making it public, but I think I owe it to many,” wrote historian Leonardo Fernández Otaño on his social networks.
In the post, he also thanked his friends who have helped him to support himself all this time and those who “went for questioning” because of their closeness to him, as well as his parents, “for so much suffering” that still continues, and his neighbors who, “like wild beasts”, defended him from harassment and attempts to repudiate him.
The young historian says he feels “grateful” to receive the dismissal, “because no one can hide the truth”, but points out that he feels “also sad” because he is “saved by the privileges of being white and intellectual”, but “the young people from La Güinera have not had the same luck “and are receiving” unjust and politicized sentences. “
In addition to Fernández Otaño, Díaz, García Aguilera and Font, the detainees that day in front of the ICRT, who were under the precautionary measure of movement restriction, were Edel Carrero, Javier Pérez Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Sáenz Calahorra, Raúl Prado, Gretel Medina , Daniel Triana and Aminta Calzado.
