They earn more than the president
The Federal Law on Remuneration of Public Servants establishes that no public servant should have more earnings than those of the President of the Republic. Since the six-year term of López Obrador began, he has embarked on a crusade that has that cap on wages as one of his insignia.
However, the bodies that enjoy constitutional autonomy argue that they are governed by another legal framework, since they also have budgetary autonomy according to the Constitution, hence they set their own earnings and are not obliged to limit their salary schedule to what is established. in that Law, which has been initially recognized by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), which suspended the application of that law to the INE, Cofece and IFT, which litigated the case.
Via amparos, the Bank of Mexico even obtained the return of income cut in the first half of 2019.
Today, among those who earn more than the president are close to him, such as the SCJN ministers.
And by 2023, each minister will have a net annual nominal remuneration of 3 million 773,995 pesos, taxes already paid. This means net monthly earnings of 205,599 pesos.
Only the annual benefits add up to 1 million 320,689 pesos, including a vacation premium of 95,475 pesos, a Christmas bonus of 585,505 pesos, institutional life insurance of 37,808 pesos, insurance for medical expenses greater than 36,906 pesos, individualized separation insurance of 523,314 and incentive for seniority of 41,681 pesos.
Like other members of the Judiciary, the ministers enjoy a “risk payment” that will be 639,917 pesos next year.
The magistrates of the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) will enjoy an RTA of 3 million 804, 353 pesos, already without taxes. Per month the net perception will be 203,861 pesos.
In the benefits of the magistrates, the bonus (based on base salary and compensation) stands out for 587,536 pesos, institutional life insurance of 37,808 pesos, insurance for medical expenses greater than 25,769 pesos and individualized separation insurance of 528,713 pesos.
Others who maintain high incomes are the advisors of the National Electoral Institute (INE), the ones mainly questioned by the Presidency of the Republic.
The Total Annual Net Remuneration of the directors will be 3 million 57,711 pesos, already discounted taxes. The benefits are above all a bonus of 532,862 pesos, institutional life insurance of 61,456, insurance for medical expenses greater than 43,032 pesos and individualized separation insurance for 477, 516 pesos.
The commissioners of the Federal Competition Commission (Cofece) will have an RTA of 2 million 322,683 pesos, taxes already paid; an end-of-year bonus of 330,353 pesos and food aid of 33,600 pesos, among other benefits, such as “stimulus”, already budgeted but subject to plenary approval for 34,416 pesos.
The commissioners of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) will enjoy an RTA of 2 million 513,537 in 2023 and annual benefits as a bonus of 312,538 pesos, institutional life insurance of 34,665, in addition to “financial support for the acquisition of a vehicle” for 117,000 pesos.
