The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, reported at the launch of the activities for the 65th anniversary of the Termas del Daymán that measures are being studied to extend the benefits that drive domestic tourism, working together with the Uruguayan Chamber of the sector, to project support formulas with special credits for operators.

The event, held this Thursday 8 at the Salto thermal park, was also attended by the departmental mayor, Andrés Lima, and, on behalf of the Salto Strategic Tourism Board, María Inés Pereyra, as well as national and departmental authorities.

Viera referred to the Tourism for All initiative, which supports retirees and pensioners with a subsidy of 25% of the value of the vacation package. “It is a stimulus for the development of social tourism,” he said, and specified that the first trip of this program took place a few days ago, from Carmelo to Termas del Daymán.

He assured that Uruguay has important strengths in the quality of infrastructure and services, diversity in supply, legal certainty and health policies.

Anniversary and benefits for foreigners

It also celebrated the initiative to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the thermal park with activities and events during the month of September, “which complement the attractions of the destination.”

He recalled that, in the 1940s, through drilling by Ancap in Arapey, the first hot water well emerged and later, in the current Daymán thermal park. He recognized the work of mayors and private investors over the years, who managed to position this destination as a “true paradise.”

He expressed that it is an important tourist area that should be supported. In this sense, he indicated that they are working together with the departmental government, the operators and the tourism chambers to continue with its development.

Viera mentioned that as of September 1, the Government decreed new benefits for foreign visitors and non-residents, through the total return of the value added tax (VAT) in the gastronomic sector and the rental of cars and accommodation. The measure, which will be in force until April 30, 2023, inclusive, is added to the return of 10.5% of the gross amount at the agreed price for housing rentals for tourist use and the 30% discount on fuel.
