Cuban authorities exchange with Foreign Minister of Suriname

Cuban authorities exchanged this Thursday with Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of Surinamvisiting the Island.

This noon, Ramdin was received by the Cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, at the Palace of the Revolution, in Havana. At the meeting, the president ratified “the island’s enormous commitment and the priority of continuing to strengthen relations with the Caribbean,” refers the official site Cubadebate.

“They are our closest brothers,” said Díaz-Canel, quoted by the publication, according to which the Foreign Minister of Suriname “transferred his government’s gratitude to Cuba for the cooperation offered to his nation, a long-standing collaboration that —assured — they seek to reinvigorate”.

In addition, the visitor also reaffirmed his country’s support for Havana and affirmed that his government is committed to “unity and inclusion” of all the nations of the hemisphere “without conditions.”

Previously, Ramdin had met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez, in a meeting at the headquarters of the Island’s Foreign Ministry in which both reviewed bilateral relations and “ratified the will to continue developing them,” according to the report itself. The ministers also analyzed the options to “update and adjust official cooperation according to the conditions of each country”, while they discussed relations between Cuba and the member countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), a regional bloc whose presidency pro tempore it is currently occupied by Suriname.

They also stressed that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the reestablishment of relations between several Caribbean nations and Cuba, the Spanish media points out.

In particular, Rodríguez thanked the president of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, for his statement against the exclusion of his country from the IX Summit of the Americas, held last June in Los Angeles, as well as the support of that nation in denouncing the economic embargo applied by the United States government to Cuba.

After today’s meetings, the Surinamese minister will develop during his visit to Havana until this Friday contacts with other authorities of the largest of the Antilles, a country with which Suriname maintains cooperation, especially in the area of ​​health.
