Journalist Mario Pentón denounces hacking of his WhatsApp by State Security

Periodista Mario Pentón denuncia hackeo de su WhatsApp por parte de la Seguridad del Estado

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban journalist Mario J. Pentón, from the América Tevé network, denounced this Wednesday the hacking of his WhatsApp account by the Cuban State Security.

In a direct message through Facebook, the reporter, based in South Florida, pointed out that the hacking of his WhatsApp account is part of an attempt by the island’s regime to silence his complaints about the Cuban reality.

“I want to denounce a new attack by the Cuban State Security from my social media platforms,” Pentón said in a live broadcast.

The reporter warned that, at the time of the hack, those who would send messages to the hacked account would receive messages from a political police agent.

“If you write to my WhatsApp number, which many of you have, you will see that a State Security agent is responding to you. They are desperate to silence the work we are doing, denouncing the abuses of human rights in Cuba.”

The journalist also made it clear that he would not give in to the pressures of the regime and assured that he would continue to denounce the arbitrariness that occurs daily on the island.

“I’m not going to shut up and I’m not going to stop doing the work I do,” said the América Tevé reporter, who has worked and collaborated with different media inside and outside the island, such as the independent portal 14ymedio and the Miami newspaper The New Herald.

The reporter told CubaNet that the company that manages WhatsApp was already notified about the hack and that right now it remains without access to your account.

“No one has access to the WhatsApp account at the moment. They keep trying to hack my profiles on other social networks, including LinkedIn, but without success so far.”

Last week, Mario Pentón had also denounced the hacking of his profile on the Telegram social network, one of the most used platforms today to share information.
