Deputy Sánchez, from the PRO, retracted his statements about the death penalty

Francisco Sánchez, the author of the initiative, rectified his statements.

The national deputy of the PRO Francis Sanchez he retract this Thursday of his sayings through which proposed to establish the death penalty for corruption casesafter the block of front of all (FDT) asked the president of the PRO, Patricia Bullrichand the head of the deputies caucus, Cristian Ritondo, to “repudiate” his statements, considering that “they are unconstitutional and generate an offense against the Argentine people and democracy.”

Through a note addressed to Ritondo, the deputy for Neuquén clarified: “I ratify my position regarding declaring the crimes of aggravated corruption as comparable to crimes of treason against the Fatherland, as expressed in the project of my authorship.”

“In the same I point out the need to establish in the letter of the Penal Code its imprescriptibility and the impossibility of pardon, amnesty or commutation of sentence, all in compliance with the mandate of article 36, fifth paragraph of the National Constitution”, he specified.

In that sense, he added: “As we all in Argentina know enough, corruption at different levels of the State has become one of the main evils, affecting public coffers, morally affecting society and discrediting trust in the entirety of the political community”.

“I consider the request to avoid the continuation of demonstrations that could affect the sensitivity of individuals or groups to be worthwhile, so I will desist from promoting a project of these characteristics.”Francis Sanchez

“Going specifically to the demonstrations regarding the application of the death penalty for this type of crimealthough it is not expressed in my aforementioned project, I did expose it as an alternative treatment, not aimed at any person in particular, but at all cases in which theft crimes are reliably proven”he acknowledged.

In that sense, he admitted: “I am not unaware that our Nation has abolished the death penalty since the Assembly of the year XIII and that our cultural values, derived from our Christian tradition, exalt the virtue of forgiveness and reconciliation. Nor can I ignore that Argentina has given the American Convention on Human Rights constitutional rank, with which only by modifying our National Constitution could an initiative of the type proposed advance”.

“This possibility is part of what any legislator can and should consider, such as, for example, the Vice President of the Nation has also considered it when proposing a modification to the autonomous status of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, an unconstitutional idea that requires a modification of the Magna Carta,” he remarked.

Finally, he stressed: “With this, I simply want to point out that The demonstrations that I have made are part of the function that I perform and that, as I hope you know, is protected by the National Constitution in its article 68″.

“Now, taking into account the seriousness of the social situation in Argentina, derived from the economic crisis and the permanent offenses against the republican institutions, I consider the request to avoid the continuation of demonstrations that may affect the sensitivity of individuals or collective, so I will desist from promoting a project of these characteristics“, hill.

Previously, in two notes signed by the head of the FDT block, German Martinezand the parliamentary secretary of the bench, Paula Penacca, requested that they require the national deputy for Neuquén to rectify himself, after this Thursday Sánchez insisted on that request again.

The two notes are the same and only the header changes, since in the one addressed to Ritondo it is stated that “We are writing to you in your capacity as President of the Bloc of Deputies and Deputies of the PRO of the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Nation and appealing to the responsibility that leading a political bloc entails, a task that we share”, and the one sent to Bullrich indicates that it sends the note “appealing to the responsibility that leading a political party with national representation entails”.

The text of the FDT indicates that “in recent days, deputy Francisco Sánchez has made public statements that make direct reference to the application of the death penalty to the Vice President of the Nation, Dr. Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and, in the last hours , on the occasion of a radio interview, has ratified this position,” says the letter.

Speaking to Radio Colonia, Sánchez defended his project to impose the death penalty for corruption crimes, since he maintains that they imply “treason against the country.”

“Last year I presented a bill so that the most aberrant crimes, in my opinion the rape of minors followed by death, would receive the death penalty. Many Argentines asked me to also extend it to crimes of aggravated corruption, something what I did,” said the Neuquén deputy this Thursday.
