SANTO DOMINGO.– The Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, installed this Monday the commission in charge of revising and modifying the General Law of Education 66-97, made up of the key actors that affect the system at the national level, whom he exhorted to work for a regulations that are in accordance with current times and guarantee student learning.

During the start-up meeting, held in the Ercilia Pepín room of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), Minister Hernández assured that the participation of all those who are part of the education sector in the renewal of the regulations will As a result, a piece consistent with the current days, which promotes rights and social inclusion.

“A Law that allows the pre-university education system to catch up with the advances that Dominican society has had in recent times and, not only Dominican society, but the context in which education is developed at a continental level already world level,” he said.

He affirmed that collaborating with the updating of the Education Law is a commitment of each citizen, because this sector is the one that most impacts the dynamics of Dominican society, “so it is necessary that we all contribute our grain of sand ».

The commission coordinator, Radhamés Mejía, thanked Minister Hernández for taking them into account to be part of the transformation of the current regulations, while assuring that everyone will work with enthusiasm and with a high sense of commitment in favor of the quality of the educational system from Dominican Republic.

He stated that one of the main tasks of the commission is to develop an adequate work methodology in accordance with the new times and join the previous efforts that have been made to promote the development of Dominican education.

While Eduardo Hidalgo, president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), thanked Minister Ángel Hernández for the invitation to be part of this commission, while saying that they will have a positive attitude in the task entrusted to him.

“How good this is a plural table and this will help us to have a law that represents the interests of society. Naturally, having a modern law unites us, a law that identifies the Dominican State and that consolidates the rights, not only of the sectors, but of the Dominican population, which is ultimately what we all have to seek at this table,” Hidalgo said. .

On her side, the rector of the Pedro Poveda Higher Institute of Educational Studies (ISEEEPP), Dinorah García Romero, stated that the commission will work hard to guarantee effective results, while she valued that the whole society is informed of this process so that “ He accompanies us and contributes to us, and challenges us when he has to, and in this way we improve the work”.

He also valued the presence of the ADP, as a key group so that the voice of teachers is heard in the face of the modification of the piece. He also suggested integrating those teachers who are not part of that union into the dialogue so that they can contribute from their experience.

The commission is made up of former Education Ministers Jacqueline Malagón and Ligia Amada Melo de Cardona, as well as Franklin García Fermín, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology; Olga Espaillat, from the Dominican Union of Private Educational Institutions; Eduardo Hidalgo, president of the ADP; Ancell Scheker Mendoza, Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Services; Darwin Caraballo, Executive Director of EDUCA, and Laura Calventi, representative of INICIA Education.

They are also part of Carmen Evarista Matías, representative of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD); Rosalía Sosa Pérez, vice-rector for extensions; Nurys del Carmen González Durán, rector of the Salomé Ureña Higher Teacher Training Institute (ISFODOSU); Catholic priests Sergio De la Cruz, representative of the Catholic University of Cibao (UCATECI) and Isaac García De la Cruz, of the Northeast Catholic University (UCNE); Feliciano Lacen, from the Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (CODUE); Etanislao Castillo and Agustín Natera Rincón, representatives of the National Association of Education Professionals and Technicians of the Dominican Republic (ANPROTED), among other social actors.
