The improvement in business confidence in August was driven by the rise in trade: 5.4 points. The service sector increased by 0.5 point in the month and the manufacturing industry recorded the second consecutive drop: 1.4 point.

Expansion

The rise in commerce by micro and small companies was greater than that in commerce in general, which increased by 4.3 points in August. The general business confidence index grew 2.2 points in the month, reaching 100.8 points.

According to the president of Sebrae, Carlos Melles, “the confidence of micro and small companies has returned to the recovery path started in February”. In his assessment, the index, when surpassing the 100 point mark, which indicates neutrality, shows a perspective of the businessmen of improving the economic scenario.

“Resources made available by the government, the improvement of the job market and the deceleration of prices helped in this result”, he concluded.
