Senator from Buenos Aires Francisco Durañona (Front of All) presented three bills to promote the oil industry in the province of Buenos Aires with the objective, among others, of being part of the provinces with developments in this area.
“We aspire for Buenos Aires to occupy a seat at the table of the oil provinces, given that 80% of the crude oil produced in Argentina is processed in this province,” Durañona said in statements to Télam Radio.
The Petroleum Industry project seeks to declare the promotion, development and execution of plans aimed at increasing the production and treatment of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons of provincial public interest.including its derivatives.
“Energy is one of the most relevant issues in the geopolitical context and Argentina is a key player, with great potential. In this context, the province of Buenos Aires is one of the fundamental links,” explained the legislator.
This initiative, presented by the senator in the auditorium of the National University Arturo Jauretche of Florencio Varela, promotes the rational increase in the production and treatment of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons in a sustainable manner.

In this sense, marked as “fundamental” the role of the refineries in the Buenos Aires ports, as well as the function of the ports in petrochemical matters.
“And now there is the possibility of ‘offshore’ exploitation on the coast of Buenos Aires, which is going to give a very important volume to the economic activity of the coastal municipalities, of the ports,” stressed Durañona.
Also highlighted the impact it will have on the “enormous number of jobs and mainly resources for the province of Buenos Aires, which will historically change the income equation” of the provincial district.
In addition, the projects contemplate the formation of a Bicameral Commission in which universities and different actors will also participate “to monitor everything related to exploration, exploitation and everything related to hydrocarbons with a prominent column on the subject of environmental issue”.
In addition to Durañona, the rector of the Arturo Jauretche National University (UNAJ), Arnaldo Medina; the Undersecretary of Energy of the PBA, Gastón Ghioni; and the mayor of Florencio Varela, Andrés Watson, among others.
