only one of the 16 outbreaks of forest fires that were registered on Wednesday in Córdoba remain active in the mountains of the town of La Falda, in the Punilla valley, reported from the provincial government.
The Secretary for Climate Risk and Catastrophe Management of the province, Claudio Vignetta, told local media that “the only active focus is the one that began on Wednesday in Huerta Grande and spread to the summit of the La Banderita and Camino del Cuadrado”, and that the rest are “contained”.
Likewise, the official said that if the weather conditions allow it, in the early hours of this morning the air combat will begin with operations of six hydrant planes and three helicopters, meanwhile 160 firefighters and police personnel are working in the Punilla Valley region. Technical Team of Action before Catastrophes (ETAC).
Two planes and one of the helicopters were provided by the national government, the official stressed. and, although improvements in the weather are expected this Thursday, with a drop in temperature and humidity, he warned that “extreme risk conditions due to fires remain.”
“Wednesday was a very difficult day. We had 16 forest fires that we managed to control in the early hours of this morning”, detailed Vignetta and among them he mentioned the most important ones such as those that affected the area of Despeñaderos, Villa Carlos Paz, Estancia Vieja, Toledo and Laguna Larga.
Finally, the provincial secretary said that all the fires that are registered are being prosecuted to be investigated, and in this regard he announced that there are identifications of suspects of intentionally causing the fires.
