This is the second opportunity in which a special stage is organized with the titles being disputed between the top-5 and the top-5 of the ranking, in a knockout heats system, on the best day at sea in the high performance waves of Lower Trestles beach.
Brazil comes strong to the dispute, with three representatives, two among men (Filipe Toledo and Italo Ferreira) and one among women (Tatiana Weston-Webb), all with experience in the Finals, having participated in the first edition, last year. The big absence is Gabriel Medina, who secured the men’s title in 2021.
Now the Brazilian best positioned in the dispute is Filipe Toledo, who, as the current leader of the men’s ranking, will only fall into the water to dispute the big decision: “I’m very happy to be back, very happy to compete in the WSL Finals again. Last year, the first final was really cool. I’m blessed to be back here, to be back home with my family and friends, and doing what I love, which is surfing. Can not wait”.
form of dispute
The WSL Finals will be in a knockout system, thus defining the 2022 world champions. The leaders of the rankings will have the greatest chance and decide the titles in a best of three heats. In the men’s, Italo Ferreira will be the first Brazilian to compete in the WSL Finals and his opponent will be the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi. Whoever wins will measure forces with the third place in the ranking, the Australian Ethan Ewing. The winner of the second round will face Jack Robinson, from Australia. And from this third match, it will be defined who will make the final, in a best of three, with Filipe Toledo.
