The National Director of Road Education of the Traffic and Land Transport Authority (ATTT), Nicomedes Aizpurúa, referred this Tuesday to the modifications of the traffic regulations, among them, the definitive withdrawal of the license to drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol or illicit substances.
He stressed that these modifications seek to strengthen driver education because “we have realized that many of the offenses committed on the streets are due to some type of ignorance.”
In the case of alcohol, Aizpurúa mentioned that among the reforms that have been discussed is the withdrawal of the license initially for six months, then two years and if it is a repeat offender (for the third time) the driver’s definitive license is withdrawn. Currently the traffic regulations indicate that for the first time the license is withdrawn for three months, then six months and for the third time, up to two years the suspension of the license.
“Once, taking into account that this is approved, as the traffic history is not erased, you will have all the offenses you have had in force, so your history will be taken into account and if you have one or two penalties for breathalyzer, you will automatically lose your driver’s license,” he explained.
