The National Institute of Ablation and Transplantation, dependent on the Public Health portfolio, highlights the importance of organ and tissue donation, recalling that this September 12 is remembered in Paraguay, the National Organ and Tissue Donor Day.
The date was instituted in commemoration of the death of Dr. Marco Aguayo, the first cadaveric donor in the country. Dr. Aguayo donated his kidneys and corneas, for which the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare highlights the altruism of this act and respect for the will of deceased people regarding this decision.
Relatives of donors urge awareness of this act of love for others, which can save or improve the lives of other people whose health is compromised or at risk. On September 12, in the session room of the Municipal Board of Asunción.
On the other hand, in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción (UNA), posters and donor cards will be delivered, whose main message will be of gratitude to those who donated their organs and tissues.
“We may need an organ to save the life of a family member or we may lose a family member who can save the lives of other people. Neither of them is desired… but both can be transformed into something as beautiful as love and hope: a new chance at life or a better life for people whose only alternative is a donor.”
Carlos Cáceres, lost his wife, Aurora, who after a stroke (stroke) was brain dead; both he and his children said yes to the donation. Finally, it was the liver, kidneys and corneas that were transplanted to recipients who today have a better life.
Everyone can be a donor and has the right to donate, regardless of age. When a person considers the possibility of being a donor, the first thing he has to do, and the most important thing, is to communicate his decision to his family and closest friends.
