As part of the Transport Modernization Plan carried out by the Ministry of Transport, headed by Alexis Guerrera, the service of trains international between Paraguay and Argentina.
It’s about the trains of cargo and passengers, which were suspended in 2015 and 2020, respectively. While the railway line cargo was reactivated this Tuesday, the passenger will be enabled on September 12.
The trains of cargo and passengers will connect both countries, which, in turn, will allow the economy, trade and tourism to be reactivated, and will link the Posadas International Train station in Misiones, with the city of Encarnación, Paraguay.
Meanwhile, the inauguration of the freight railway line, which took place this Tuesday, was carried out with a locomotive from Trenes Argentinos Cargas (TAC) and it is expected that, “During the next few days, a complete formation of the Urquiza line will begin its return to Zárate, in the province of Buenos Aires, with wagons loaded with bagged rice for export”according to the Government.
After the reactivation of the service, the Minister of Transport pointed out: “This is excellent news for freight transport and, also, one more example that our agencies are constantly working to make international reconnections materialize in strategic sectors that boost economies. regional”.
Meanwhile, the president of TAC, Daniel Vispo, stressed that “reactivating this international step was a challenge that we set ourselves from the beginning of the administration” and added that “Minister Guerrera entrusted us with consolidating and expanding the freight rail system, especially the Mesopotamian line, and this is one more step that will open up new opportunities”.
The reactivation of the international line will generate a greater commercial exchange between both countries and, in turn, will save time and costs of moving the merchandise.
Why was the passenger train suspended?
the railway line international passenger service was suspended in 2020, after the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, it has remained inactive, which has generated negative economic repercussions for both countries.
However, the San Roque González de Santa Cruz international bridge, which connects the cities of both countries by land and where the railway line runs, was reopened for vehicles in 2021.
