UNPACU activist residing in Baracoa denounces threats from the regime

MIAMI, United States. – The activist of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) Luis Alfredo Pérez Paján was threatened with criminal prosecution for hanging anti-establishment posters in his home and on his own pedicab.

On August 27, Pérez was transferred to the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) station in Baracoa, where officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) demanded that he remove the posters.

Some of the writings say “Homeland and Life”, “Long live July 11, the day of national rebellion”, “Down with the murderers of the MININT”, among others of a religious nature.

The repression of the regime against Pérez Paján has been habitual. A decade ago, local authorities they destroyed their cropsplanted on abandoned land.

On that occasion, the farmer and activist told Radio Televisión Martí that, after filing a complaint with the local authorities, he had only received threats. “They told me that if I tried to continue planting this land that was not mine, not only would they demolish the crops but they would also put me in jail,” he assured at the time.

In January of this year, also denounced an arrest related to the signs painted on his house and his pedicab.
