372 – “Happy you, the poor, because the Kingdom of God belongs to you”. Lk 6, 20
Throughout his life, Jesus made his preferential love for the poor very clear. Certainly not because the poor are in themselves better than others or holier, but because suffering is multiplied in them and life is more threatened. Just as a father who has many children loves them all, but he will attend much more to the one who is sick or suffering for some reason or involved in vices; so also God with us.
He loves us all, but has a special concern for those who suffer the most.
No one is excluded, but those who need it most find greater mercy in Him.
