a series of 14 earthquakesthe largest of them with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale, shook the extreme northwest of Nicaragua in the early hours of this Tuesday, without victims or damage, reported the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Internet).
The first in this chain of shocks was recorded as the largest, while its location was at the mouth of the Estero Real River, in the southeast of the Gulf of Fonseca, at 01:35 local time (07:35 GMT), according to a report from the spanish agency Eph.

The source points out that this earthquake was followed by another 13 with magnitudes between 3.2 and 1.1 degrees, all with shallow depths, according to Ineter records, which did not report whether they were due to aftershocks of the larger event or if it is a seismic swarm.
The Nicaraguan authorities did not register victims or damages due to the earth tremors, nor did they activate alarms. Eph that in the area where the earthquakes occurred, small rural towns predominate, mainly fishermen.
The Pacific zone of Nicaragua is located on the collision line between the Coco and Caribbean tectonic plates, which in turn forms part of the so-called “Pacific ring of fire”, the most active geological zone in the world and where the largest amount of of earthquakes.
