At the time, Judge María Helena Mainard sentenced Sendic, at the request of the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime, Luis Pacheco, for the crime of “unnamed abuse of functions in cases not specifically provided for by law, especially aggravated, in real reiteration with repeated especially aggravated crimes of embezzlement”, while he was in charge of the state oil company (2010-2013).
Mainard then determined a sentence of 18 months in prison (but the previous Penal Code allowed him to access the right to parole), four years of disqualification from holding public office, and a fine of 500 UR.
According to MVD Noticias, Decree No. 146/2022, dated September 1, 2022, established: “Attentive to the added documentation (pages 5165), consider the payment of the fine as proven, informing the Prosecutor’s Office Lawyer of Montevideo of Customs and Treasury for its purposes”.
In this way, by paying the fine, the cause could be extinguished.
