Does Felipe Delpin leave the presidency of the DC? The rumor runs through the chats of the phalanx and they indicate that the mayor of La Granja has already decided to step aside after the overwhelming defeat in the plebiscite, an occasion in which the Approval, an option defended by the party board, obtained only 38 .14% of the votes compared to the 61.86% reached by Rejection, an alternative defended by senators Ximena Rincón and Matías Walker, a situation that has caused strong tension that –according to some militants– could weaken a community mired in serious “identity crisis”.
The information has been denied The counter from the leadership and, although there are voices that are categorical in affirming that the mayor will remain at the head of the DC, it is evident that the citizen’s statement strengthens the position of the “unruly” Rincón and Walker, even when the National Board leaned with 63% of the votes for the option that was the loser, in an internal electoral process that, moreover, was the object of multiple questioning by those who pushed for the option that, losing that time in an internal election, ended up prevailing over country level. The reason would be very simple: Rincón and Walker’s thesis in order to turn towards the political center proved correct, and this cannot be questioned, considering the most reliable and complete survey of all, that is to say, a plebiscite that summoned more of 13 million people.
“The rumor came to the table,” acknowledged Aldo Mardones, the first national vice president, who maintained that “however, no formal communication has arrived in this regard and Felipe (Delpin), who is on medical leave, is a person who when adopts relevant decisions communicates them immediately”, he pointed out. Another source within the phalanx affirmed that the mayor has already made the decision – informally communicated to those closest to him – but that he will wait to communicate it officially in the corresponding instance.
There was a lot at stake this Sunday, and one of the situations that aroused the most curiosity was, precisely, seeing the reaction of the winners and losers. In the group of the latter were Yasna Provoste and Francisco Huenchumilla. The fifth Falangist in the Upper House, Iván Flores, supported the Approval, but participated together with the first two in the drafting of the project that allowed the reduction of the quorum for constitutional reforms to 4/7, an effort to which the socialist Fidel also joined. “We continue working according to the planning, we have a pending conversation in the National Council tomorrow, with different actors, regional councilors, regional presidents; in short, different instances and there we will surely talk about what the process was, and of course we are working to bring positions closer together,” added Mardones, who hopes for a climate of harmony despite the clear – and legitimate – differences that exist in within a party.
But there are some who do not see a conversation without the classic reckoning. The ex-conventionalist Fuad Chahin, who also contravened the directive’s mandate by becoming spokesman for the Rejection, asked “to summon a National Board as soon as possible”, so that this instance “discusses the political consequences of the decision that was made. And of course the political responsibilities will have to be discussed there”, he asserted right away.

The helm of the party is in dispute, however the first vice president, Aldo Mardones, insisted that work is being done to strengthen the community and validate institutions such as the supreme court, and that one of the issues that will surely appear on the table is the conversation about “parameters referring to the doctrinal functioning of our party, and that is going to require a lot of dialogue and that invitation remains in force, with the work of the table that is working with all the energy,” he said.
Of course, in the world that defended the Rejection option, the idea of configuring a new directive is installed, since, as Chahin pointed out, “it is worrying that today the DC does not have leadership, that it is weakened for the moments to come, and for that reason We need a directive that reunifies, that strengthens and integrates to give leadership to the party, and it seems to me that we must discuss this collectively”.
But it will not be a comfortable conversation for the “losers who ended up winning the plebiscite” either, and this is thanks to the momentary decision of Renovación Nacional not to accept the invitation extended this Tuesday, September 6, by President Gabriel Boric to talk about the future constituent process. , in protest at the “improvisation” that they warned about in the cabinet change, a decision that was reversed by efforts by the new Segpres minister, Ana Lya Uriarte.
The gesture was read by the Falangist hosts of Approval as confirmation of how inconvenient it was to give “a blank check” to the right. “I am very sorry, but this confirms the doubt that was generated in me by giving you a blank check. The worst premonitions, the most negative, are materializing”, indicated Aldo Mardones, concerned about the imprudence of a political sector that – in his opinion – plays with fire. Certainly, in addition, the responsibility for a possible breach of the commitments made by the “Rejection to reform” will also fall on those who, not being members of the parties of Chile Vamos, officiated as a guarantor.
“By trying to take away the salt and water from the government, they are taking away the salt and water from the people. We are already seeing a breach that does not affect only the President or his cabinet, but also the integrity of politics and all those people who trusted and are now waiting for a new Constitution, accepting what is good in the text, improving what needs to be improved and taking whatever needs to be removed. We must stop with these excuses and we must stop setting conditions for the dialogue that makes the path viable”, added the first vice president of the Christian Democracy.
But Chahin, on the same side as Rincón and Walker, insists that there is another urgent conversation, and it is about a change in management. “If anyone believes that things can continue as they are, that would be simply irrational,” he concluded.
