After a meeting he had, this Tuesday, September 6, 2022, with representatives of the economic commissions of Congress, the Minister of Finance, José Antonio Ocampo, confirmed that the Government will seek add a little more than 11 billion pesos to the draft General Budget of the Nation (PGN) Presented by former President Iván Duque.

According to Ocampo, the additional money for the PGN would not require debt programs and would come out of tax collection (8 billion pesos) and of resources that have not been used by some government entities.
“The composition of the addition and the Budget is being discussed taking into account some financing deficits due to inflation, which implies extraordinary expensesOcampo said.
Those additional $11 billion would go to programs for peace, nutrition and food, productive development, culture and sports.
If the addition is achieved, the PGN 2023 would become 402 billion pesos.

“The total amount is then close to $402 billion and next Monday we are going to take the proposal to speakers to increase the item”, concluded the Minister of Finance.
It is worth remembering that the Petro government has been very critical of the Duque government, since it has pointed out that it did not present a Budget project in accordance with the needs of the country and of not guarantee funding for social programs.

The amount of PGN 2023 has a deadline to be approved before September 15, 2022.
