A Colombian vessel named “DE PESCA”, which was fishing in a prohibited area of the Coiba mountain range, was seized in the framework of Operation “ACRUX II” by the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN) in conjunction with the Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP).
This vessel at the time of the apprehension had the nets in the water, and its specification is a wooden hull, length 17.64 meters with 08 people on board (all Colombian nationals) and its landing point is Buenaventura, Colombia.
During this ACRUX II operation recently, the vessel “P-230 General Omar Torrijos”, during maritime patrols, detected a vessel engaged in longline fishing activities, without the respective permit from the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP).
The vessel, manned by four people, was 13 nautical miles east of Isla Chapera, in the Las Perlas Archipelago, and at the time of the inspection, it did not have the corresponding documentation and did not emit a signal on its monitoring system, so that were taken to a safe port in Vacamonte de Panamá Oeste, for their corresponding procedures.
At the time of inspecting the holds of the vessel, the authorities were able to verify the presence of prohibited sea product for fishing, throwing a total of 4,556.82 pounds broken down as follows: Dorado fish 2,745.75 pounds, Red Snapper 1,244, Shark 309 pounds, while that 189 pounds are from Alguacil and 69 correspond to the Jurel species. During this operation, 7 turtles and 5 sailfish were also found.
In another action against illegal fishing, units aboard the BPC-2805 and BPC-3706, during maritime patrols in the Las Perlas Archipelago, detected two vessels that were fishing in a protected area, being taken to a safe port for the corresponding procedures.
