From September 4, Panama became the headquarters of the 11th. Tephinet Global Scientific Conference, which is a network of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (Fetp), building a workforce to protect all people from threats that could affect public health.
The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, representing the National Government, opened this conference that represents an opportunity to show the achievements of Fetp in Central America.
At the same time, share the development and evolution of Fetp and the steps that have been taken to institutionalize it.
“The importance of this event is that for the first time in Panama a conference of this type is held, which brings together more than 400 epidemiology professionals worldwide. During these days, the week and Day of Epidemiology,” Sucre specified.
The head of Minsa emphasized that this is important for Panama because as a country it has shown progress in field epidemiology, the important activities that are being carried out and, in addition, “the exchange we have with epidemiologists from other countries where we can exchange knowledge and information, which is the most important thing”.
According to information issued by the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Comisca), there are thirteen epidemiological investigations of the SICA region that were selected and will be presented by the members of the Central American Network of Field Epidemiology (Redcec) during this event; one of them in charge of Panama.
The inauguration of this event took place this Monday morning. On Wednesday, attendees of the hybrid conference will have the opportunity to celebrate the second World Field Epidemiology Day together.
